Sushi House is a small Japanese restaurant on Pico Blvd. The place can be easily overlooked unless you are careful. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very friendly and lively reggae music fills the air. Enjoy their special sushi rolls while your spirits are lifted by the upbeat music. The menu lists many varieties of rolled sushi in the American style, but even their California roll, for instance, is quite unique! Fake crab, which is basically a type of fish cake and is one of the staple ingredients for typical California rolls, is absolutely out of the question here.
Their rolls are filled with real fresh crabmeat and plenty of it, too. Sushi House came into being as a joint enterprise between Japanese and American entrepreneurs 27 years ago. When the restaurant opened, they recruited some genuine and experienced sushi chefs from Japan, and have been making efforts in creating new taste sensations while preserving the tradition of Japanese sushi-making ever since. Contrary to what you may imagine from the upbeat and carefree ambience, they are quite persistent, stubborn and particular about the taste of their food. It goes without saying that their traditional Japanese sushi is great. Sushi rolls tend to be taken lightly by many chefs, but not at the Sushi House. The freshest seafood is carefully picked and purchased at fish markets by cognoscenti everyday, and they take pride in using it for both traditional and non-traditional sushi creations. (Even some of the most superior seafood is sometimes used in their rolls.) Whereas the restaurant is very consistent in adhering to a meticulous cooking style, beginning at the preparation stage and moving on to the finishing touches without cutting any corners, the chefs¡Ç recommendation naturally changes daily. Sushi chefs at this restaurant may appear to be making sushi nonchalantly while swaying to a reggae beat, but you can definitely see their disciplined artisan spirits on display at crucial points. Never underestimate these sushi rolls. They are not just ordinary sushi rolls but the creations of experienced chefs trained in the Japanese orthodox school. Also, pay close attention to their pricing! It is hard to believe that you can eat premium quality fresh sushi at such a reasonable price. Simply amazing.
Spicy Tuna (Hand Roll) $6.00
Wow! You will first be surprised at the sheer size of this Hand Roll! (You can imagine how big the Spicy Tuna Hand Roll is by comparing its size to the little sake cup next to it in the photo.) Spicy tuna filling spills over the dried seaweed wrapping. As a matter of fact, Sushi House is the original creator of the spicy tuna roll. One bite from this roll made by its creator reveals why it has become so popular. It fills your mouth with tuna. Since the largest part of this hand roll is tuna, your first bite most likely does not contain anything else.
Making a spicy tuna roll bigger by adding more of rice is the usual method at most restaurants, but not at Sushi House. Here, abundant tuna is used unstintingly for each hand roll. The unbelievable amount of spicy tuna filling is just stunning! As to the taste, the moderate spiciness brings out the full flavor of the fresh tuna. You will be completely satisfied with this item both in terms of its quality and quantity! The Spicy Tuna Hand Roll is a must try item at Sushi House.
Tuna Tuna Tuna $11.50
The Spicy Tuna Hand Roll certainly gives you your fill of tuna. But ¡ÈTuna Tuna Tuna¡É offers you even more tuna, as its name rightfully suggests. Spicy tuna, which is their pride and joy, is placed inside the roll; a generous cut of tuna sashimi is placed on top of the roll; the roll is then crowned by some masago (smelt eggs), savory fried onions, and capers; finally, the whole thing is dressed with a house special mustard sauce. The combination of fried onions and rich tuna creates a superb flavor. The capers and masago are a wonderful accent to this item: The capers add zest to the delicious flavor, while masago adds a vivid color and unique texture.

This roll offers both luxurious indulgence and intricate taste. The fact that so much tuna is used to make this item is an indication of the chef¡Çs pride and confidence in the freshness of the fish. Tuna Tuna Tuna is only made possible by the freshest and choicest tuna. It surely lives up to its name. If you are a tuna lover, you have to treat yourself to Tuna Tuna Tuna.

The quality of the seafood at Sushi House is a given. There are many Japanese restaurants in West Hollywood (mainly along La Cienega Blvd.) where the competition is rather tough. Those restaurants actually use the same supplier as Sushi House, drawn to the premium quality of the offerings. So, high quality seafood is prepared by veteran sushi chefs at Sushi House, but the food is offered at excellent prices. It is no wonder that the restaurant has so many regulars who return again and again.
